About The San Damiano Crucifix:
Saint Francis prayed often before the Byzantine crucifix of Jesus in the abandoned chapel of San Damiano near Assisi. One day, Jesus spoke to Francis from the crucifix, "Francis, go and rebuild my house, which is falling into ruins."
Startled, Francis began rebuilding the San Damiano chapel, selling his father's silks to finance the work. In time, Francis came to realize that Our Lord Jesus was calling him to rebuild His Body, the Church.
